About the Project

For some, it’s hard to believe. For others, it’s painfully obvious. Even in this day and age there are those who believe that being an American means falling into the thin, attractive, successful, WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) category. That being an American means fitting into a specific mold.

That’s where the American Photo Project comes into play. It is my intent to bring to light the marginalized American through the use of traditional photography techniques. When complete, this project will highlight people from different races, countries and traditions; as well as those who choose alternative lifestyles, those with a different body shape, or a disfigurement. It is my hope to take a sample of the American population, even if it is a small sample, that the majority would rather forget about, and display them as proud Americans. It is my goal to illustrate that, yes, America really is more of a fruit salad then a melting pot. And we are all part of it.
